Concrete Statue Restoration

Custom Mortar Patching

St. Michael Statue

This statue of the head of St. Michael was severely cracked with several pieces missing. Over time, the concrete face had become corroded and deteriorated, making it hard to see the facial features and other details. The deterioration was also threatening the structural integrity of the statue and its longevity.

Intricate Mortar Repairs

The Challenge

Cleveland Building Restoration was called on to perform intricate masonry work in order to repair and restore the statue and ensure it would last for generations to come.

Concrete Statue Repair and Masonry Coating

Our Approach

Our work began with peeling away some of the deteriorated parts of the statue. Then, using epoxy, the team placed stainless steel pins to hold the pieces of the statue together. Stainless steel pins are used in order to limit the amount of corrosion that occurs and the future deterioration of the statue. With the pins in place, we used a concrete repair mortar that could be carved to form the missing facial features and other elements of the statue. We also patched the cracks in the back of the statue. Once the repairs had fully cured, a breathable masonry coating was applied to seal the statue and delay future deterioration. Then we added the final touches—a gold crown and cross.

The Outcome

The once deteriorated and corroded statue of St. Michael was fully restored by our masonry experts using safe, effective, and long-lasting concrete repair mortar. The masonry coating will protect this beautiful statue for the future.
